Remote Control DS'ing

Hey David,..these things are simple to take apart,..take it apart and look for something obstructing the valve and not allowing it to seal. Because if it's "action" is working,..there isn't any reason other than physical obstruction in the plunger as to why it won't close. I get a month out of them before they begin to leak through. Due to material wear.

I just built a remote injector from the parts Jeff put up in one of the threads. Wasn't to hard to do, But now I have to wait for Spring to see if it works

Building it was the easy part. Tracking down the parts was the hard part. Jeff has the remote and solenoid listed in the thread. Then it was off to HD, Lowes and Auto Zone. That took longer to get, then to build

Hey Art,..yea building one of these is very simple,.and that particular remote (RS-101) gives very easy to follow instructions. The main parts are the remote and the solenoid,.then you have to go shopping local and the pother things like you mentioned. These solenoids seem to hold up fairly well,..especially for the cost. But I'm always on the lookout for others,..simply because you never know when the supply will dry up! I think I have about 10 of these white poly ones at the moment.

Also,.. the RS-101 remote has excellent range,..I never had an issue,.but the blue antenna wire HAS to be on the outside of the the box,. I just stick it through a hole.

It was funny because when I made it and was testing the range without any equipment running it was fine 300-500 ft. through houses easily,..with the antenna inside the box. But when I started the engine and actually went to use the remote it didn't work properly,..UNTIL,.I exposed the antenna outside the box,..then it worked excellent and never had an instance of not making connection. The engine must generate some interference,.and didn't allow the antenna to work inside the box?

That's why the remotes I sent out had specific instruction to expose the antenna. Makes all the difference!

Jeff

Hey Art,.two things I don't like about that particular remote,.the first thing is more of a personal choice,.. the size,..just didn't want a key fob type,..too small. But the most obvious is the range,..it's only approximately 50 ft. . The RS101 is an awesome remote at an approximate range of 500 ft. I can attest the range being accurate.  And  the RS101 is only about $2.00 more.

Also,.not sure if I posted it before,.but I take the receiver and transmitter apart and apply dielectric grease on the circuit boards and also on the battery contacts in the transmitter.  Probably overkill,..but makes me feel better,Ha,Ha.   I then place the transmitter in a waterproof plastic pouch and put in a few silica packs.  I attach a binder clip to the pouch and clip the transmitter to my waistband where it is easily accessible.  Didn't want it in my pocket.

Good to have lots of input on these subjects.  I'll be interested to see how the stainless solenoid holds up. I would actually probably go with brass body if I was bound to go with a metal.  I do wish the poly ones I use had Viton plunger,..but EPDM holds up fairly well.

Also,.any transmitter that claims to waterproof is still gonna be subject to eventual internal corrosion from either water or chemicals from pushing the button with wet gloves or fingers.  I wouldn't rely on these to be truly water proof.  Maybe one made for marine use,..but even then,..I'd still be proactive and put the transmitter inside a plastic pouch.  The chemicals, water and crud will find it's way inside eventually.  Sucks to depend on something and then find out you can't.   Is why I stress good connections,  (I prefer solder)  and dielectric grease on every connection carrying voltage or going to ground.  Makes a huge difference in longevity.

I built the remote today in a 6 x 6 waterproof plastic electric box. I used wire nuts to make it easier to change the switch. I'll hook it up this weekend and see how it goes.

Hey Brett,..that looks good.... These things are so simple to build and provide a HUGE benefit to anyone who DS.  There are also so many remotes and solenoids to choose from that are cheap. No reason anyone who wants one can't have one.  And,..considering the cost, the solenoids are easy to keep on hand and ready to replace.  Glad to see others putting effort towards this idea and trying other products,..like Art using the stainless and someone else using brass,..along with different plunger materials.

Jeff
