Video I shot this weekend for Copper Stain Removal at the Caldwell Building using OneRestore. The call it a construction detergent, and its basically a buffered, soapy, Hydrochloric acid. Works great on metal type stains.

There is another buffered Hydrochloric acid I messed with last year for rust stains and it worked well. It's called "Acid Magic" Ace hardware has it and is $9.99 a gallon.

Yeah me too! Everyone's calling from fall for exterior work and have a customer who's 3 week old perfect bluestone was badly damaged by rust from contractor leaving iron bars on it after installing it. Told her we'd do when spring comes
Job starts this week or next. Want to try the One-restore with hose pressure and if that doesn't work, got the PW's loaded and ready

Do you guys not use F-9? I thought that was the way everyone was going. I bought some and used it last season,..because I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on something. It worked but not any better than what I typically have on hand. The Acid Magic I mentioned is actually pretty darn effective as well.

Thanks Art, just got online to look for a supply source on the island!
Jeff I was thinking of F9 too, maybe do a comparison. If so I'll post results.

BTW, fyi, just looked up 1 restore and F9,

1 restore says can be used on glass,

F9 not

Thanks Ray. I've used One Restore on all sorts of things but have not had patina to clean off yet.

FYI: Here's a place down your way with some good products. I have used the rust remover and red clay remover with good results.

Read the One Restore MSDS and it's basically Hydrochloric Acid buffered, I have a few gallons of pure Hydrochloric Acid in shop so may try that with a little Gain as a surfactant and buffer, scrub and rinse.

3 gals of pure Hydrochloric Acid prob could make 30 gallons of my own restore mix.

Great Work Ray ! I'd suggest F9 for the bluestone. F9 is a money maker. I bid a rust removal job after a demo. $1680. Worked by myself. I took pics, rolled out hose, hooked up water, did some of the job, talked on the phone, looked at FB and just waisted time. After 3 1/2 hours I was bored, finished and left.

I use it, always pick up a case of it and every show I go to, bexcuse I hate paying shipping on liquids. It's good stuff, but not always the silver bullet. Goof off makes a product called rust stain remover, also available at Ace Hardware. It's much cheaper at only $15 a gallon and I find it takes care of most surface rust stains I encounter.

You're right Ray,..there doesn't seem to be that one magic bullet when it comes to rust. I've used stuff on one job and the rust is like a disappearing act,..then on the next job/surface it doesn't work the same. So yes,.having more than one "bullet" is a must. F-9 is also used on battery and fertilizer stains,..just something I don't often run into. So many variable when it comes to rust,..just have a full arsenal.

I've seen the Goof Off Rust Remover as well and will likely give it a try this season.
