Process for cleaning a metal roof?

Question for the pros:

What's the process to clean a metal roof?

1%? 2%? SH mix?

Rinse?

Apply a neutralizer?

Anybody applying wax?

Over the years we have done a few. Most were car ports. Depending how bad they were we hit it with a house wash and rinse. Never used wax.

We clean quite a few. We use a mix a bit stronger than house wash (10 - 15%) and double up on the surfactant, spray as lightly as possible to try to keep most of it on the roof. If it is hot, cool the roof off first. We ALWAYS rinse them! Also, I have found warm/hot water really helps if there are overhanging trees dropping sap.

Pre rinse, hit with a two% mix then rinse very well. Like Brett said extra surfactant to keep that mix in the roof if not it will slide right off. Make sure you tie off it's like walking on ice 10x worse

Not being sarcastic, but did anyone else see the irony of the guy who lives in HI referencing ice? Although he made an excellent point, I still had to laugh.

Bleach (2 - 5%) & detergent, plus a bit of pressure to lift it all off

I use my house wash mix (which I mix in a bit of degreaser) and bump the bleach up just a little. The last one I did was cleaned at 1.5% It all depends on how dirty it is how much SH you'll need and also what you'll have to go through to rinse it off.

Like everyone else here who chimed in, I agree! Work in small sections so your mix doesn't dry, a strong mix can cause flash oxidation. Rinse, rinse, rinse, and ALWAYS be safe! Metal roofs can be some of the most treacherous surfaces out there! Sometimes it will take multiple coast of sauce.

I have used the Agent Clean Agent Halt on some roofs, it contains a wax and will restore some luster to the metal.
