Over a year ago I saw a company with a flatbed cleaning the center overhang in the dark while it was snowing. As the year went on I would mention to the manager that we could make the awnings look real good and I'd be happy to do one for free so they could see. A week ago I notice some work being done as I drove by. Yesterday it was confirmed... they replaced awnings any of us could have cleaned for a faction of what they paid for new ones.
Stop in and ask them if they still have them....you know they don't but....."That's too bad. I could have cleaned those up real nice and used them at my house"
Sheetz customers pay the bill anyhow,.so they really don't care. I understand the customers pay either way, and Sheetz does whatever with the money,..and you'd think they could stand to save like anyone else,..but I just don't think they care. Maybe they have a good relationship with the awning company? Sheetz has an awesome business model and their trucks and stores are very clean comparatively to many convenience stores. Wasteful, yes to us,..but if it makes sense to them,..So I wouldn't be the one to argue with the success they've had since they started.
Clean or replace is a tax write off. If they need to get rid of money let me know and I will raise the price.
They most likely do have a good business model but no matter how good the relationship is with the awning company it had to cost thousands just looking at the crew and trucks. In the end it is a wasteful model.
Only wasteful to us small potato guys Brett,.They are one of the best convenience store chains in the country and have won numerous awards for their business model. I agree it's wasteful at face value. But whatever the reason,.they do it right,...maybe could be done better,..but they do it right as it stands. I've always considered Sheetz as very shrewd,..they do alot of their stuff in house so to speak.
Sheetz gas is bad quality,..also,..I never go there for anything,..they are always just too busy for my taste.

I second Jeff's reminder on their gas. All the service guys at our small engine repair shops across the board we talk to tell us it will destroy small engines in a heartbeat.
They used to really care about the appearance of their stores, but now that they have market share, they have stopped contracting the cleaning work, and expect in house to maintain them. That has resulted in many stores that could benefit from the old model again...
As long as we line up to buy at Sheetz, it will not change. Give credit where it is due, they have trained the public well.
Update from the manager. Someone tried to clean them and told them they couldn't be cleaned. Those things are so easy compared to regular awnings. I was surprised to hear this. All that was on them was algae. She suggested I contact corporate. Easier said than done. I might give it a try one day.
