Brick Cleaning *HELP*
Permalink

Hey guys I'm going to be doing a church in the future with efflorescence problems on the one side. I need suggestions of what acid or cleaner to use on this job. I've had little success in the past with acids on brick but maybe I was doing something wrong. I've tried Muriatic acid and a multi acid cleaner for brick. Neither of these worked to remove efflorescence in the past. I'm very new to acids and efflorescence so please bare with me. I will attach pics of the surface needing cleaned to this post. Thanks guys.

Efflorescence can be removed,..but it's in your best interest to inform the customer it will return. Could be a month or could be a year,.but it will return. I would inform,.and give no guarantees on how long the cleaning will last where efflorescence is concerned. Just and FYI.

Test Test and then test some more. If the cleaner is strong enough to get tough efflo off, they can easily take the finish off brick if used improperly. The problem with the process is suppliers will tell you to go at it very slowly, and do several coats if needed.

Our experience with many products has been with multiple applications, the color, the creme surface etc can be etched right off too.
