Charlie was telling me that he ran into a painter the cleans cedar shake on homes with Peroxide. I drove by the house and it looked really good. Is this the stuff he could have used. The painter said he cleans roofs with it also.

Sodium Percarbonate and peroxide are essentially the same thing. One's powder and one's liquid.

I've used the powdered sodium per carbonate. Not impressed.

Eric,.it works great when used for things it works on. And that isn't much in our World,..But,.it is a great safe cleaner for an unstained deck. I don't use it much,..I prefer Sodium Hydroxide at the proper percentage,.works the same as Sodium Percarbonate and is easier to mix.

Jeff hydroxide is a degreaser, you haven't found it to lift out some of the oils in asphalt?
I thought others have

Hydrogen peroxide is the active 'by-product' of sodium percarbonate. It's what makes the sodium percarbonate work.

Jeff your right in the sense on decks it's what's used in most all deck strippers for old stain which is why it needs to be followed by a neutralizer aka brightner. Thanks for clarification.

As for what Ted said I found this pertaining to sodium percarbonate and hydrogen peroxide. ..

"Other names
sodium carbonate sesquiperhydrate, PCS, solid hydrogen peroxide, Sodium carbonate hydrogen peroxide, sodium carbonate peroxyhydrate"

I have Art. As Jeff has stated, I too prefer NAOH. It's far more dangerous though, and requires a lot more precaution. There is a young pressure washer in my area that is blind in one eye from it (NAOH). Treat it as such - dangerous.

Even a microscopic mist in the eye will make you wish you used more precaution. It feels like,.. what being poked in the eye with a needle must feel like.

Yes like Ted said,..use it with ALOT of discretion and and even more precaution.

Another note:

Peroxide as a liquid is more expensive and also more unstable than powdered. And is why you don't see it used that often in our work. I had 15 gallons of 30% one time to experiment with,.I wasn't impressed with it as an alternative. Especially when it cost,.I think it was like $90.00 for that? Long time ago,.so I may be full of baloney.

Ended up giving the leftover to a buddy of mine who makes lamps from antlered deer skulls. Used it to whiten them and he said it worked REALLY good.

The only time I use sodium hydroxide is when I need to get rid of a body.

Um maybe I said too much

Having had 7 eye surgerlies and something like 30-50 needles in my eyes, I suppose all the numbing drops must have worked because I've got to say I've never felt even one of them. So, I'm going to go with getting a needle over HP in the eye.

I assume by HP you mean Hydrogen Peroxide,..I will clarify.  I was talking about getting NAOH in the eye.  I tend to think people should just know what's in  my mind. Kinda' like,..read my thoughts,..and not what I type, Ha,Ha,.
