I was at a customers house to give an estimate for cleaning & staining their deck and saw this dirty grey Teak patio set. Asked her what she wanted to do about it. She said she had an estimate to restore it and had just put it on Craigs list and had already order a new set. I asked her for how much  and she said $400. I said (to myself of course)  Holy Shit!   I'll buy it. This was a $2000 set. The middle piece drops down & makes a smaller table if needed. The chairs adjust to 3 different sitting positions.

The only thing wrong with them was that they were grey and a little mildew! This is a picture after cleaning. They haven't even been stained yet. It only took me 45 min. to clean them. Makes you wonder what the heck the guy quoted her to restore them.....

I did these as a experiment for a homeowner last year. They had me back to clean the whole set.

I did the same thing Dave - picked up a nice, albeit weathered set for a song. A little sodium hydroxide and a "power rinse", and they looked like new. I did a semitransparent stain/seal on them and they still look great a few years later.

I wish I would have asked her who and how much she was quoted.

Thanks to your hands on instruction years ago I've done a few for home owners. I never got so lucky to get them cheap and bring them home. I think I'll start looking for furniture on CL. Nice addition to your yard!

Very nice!

I loved the look on customer's faces when you restore hardwood furniture. Make the wife happy and they will call you year after year comes spring.
These are pics from past summer in Hamptons. She was about to purchase a new set. Took 2 of us 2 hrs prep, 2 hrs finish coat. (low pressure PW, brightener, Messemers exotic hardwood oil).
Don't remember how many pieces but it was a LOT! The GC told me it was over $25k.

Charged $3k. Customer said go for it!

Pinky, Brett, ya got me thinking.

Next time I'd probably offer to "cart them off" for free, clean 'em up and put them on CL for double what I charged😆

Hell, We all got free big screen plasmas that were headed for the dumpster just cause they felt like upgrades.
Gotta rebrand from roof cleaning & restoration to roof cleaning & American pickers

That looks amazing. My folks have a old set that could definitely use a cleaning. Sodium hydroxide is the way to go? What's the mixture?

Erik if it has stain esp latex or semi solid then yes strip first with hydroxide with low to med pressure then neutralize with about acid 1-5% max.
Oxalic or citrus aka "brightener" let fully dry out about 3 days in warm sunny weather or in heated garage the stain with specific hardwood oil NEVER water-based. It will Grey over fast (a week) in the sun from UV

I use mostly Sodium Percarbonate and a touch of >Hydroxide. < not really needed unless there is a stain on it.

Like Pinky said For teak IPE etc without stain the amount of uv graying is so superficial percarb is worth trying first if not strong enough try SH

I used Roof mix and OX. Its what I had on the truck and it worked. I let the Homeowner do the staining

If all I had to do was roof after roof after roof 3-5 a day 5-6 days a week I'd sub out other work or commission!
But theres big money in staining and it's (usually) really easy.
Been wanting to set up separate divisions.
2 guys roofs and houses.
2-3 guys staining (more than 3 guys on a job and there's always problems, mainly inefficiency.
Then I could TRY to deal with 10-20 guys painting!

Never heard of it.
You want something with a high Iron oxide pigment which will help protect from UV rays.
