Simple roof Knowledge

I know there is a lot of people that search these forums for knowledge and advice. There is a lot of you that probably already know all this but some of you might not. For those that dont this information is a must if you are working on roofs. There is nothing worse than standing there with a customer pointing at the roof saying " that part, over there, Yeah where that piece meets that piece, you know the pointy part". For me I want to know everything there is about what I do. Just knowing these simple things could be a deciding factor whether you get the job or not. Recently there was a part of the roof I couldn't remember so I took some time to refresh my memory. Now I am passing it on to those that don't know.

The only term I have never heard is barge boards. We have called that part rake for many years. All the guys saying the same thing helps!

Good idea to print for the guys. I am constantly reminding them what "it" is. Here's an example of calling something by the wrong name. One of my guys keeps wanting to clean up the "mud dormers". I'm glad he hasn't said it in front of a customer!

Great Print Out!

My thoughts ...

The more knowledge and professional information you can pass onto a pontential customer the strong the sale.

Thanks for sharing that.

Barge boards was a new term for me as well. I had always referred to them as fascia.

Fascia is only what is on the rater ends, rake goes up the gable ends. Trying to get my guys all on the same terms so no one is talking about cleaning or not cleaning the wrong thing.
