Hey Art,..you don't need the cleaner at all,...The Castrol Super Clean is providing no benefit,.....the Magic Eraser is doing all of the work. Before I even read the article,..I knew there was gonna be some sort of elbow work involved,...and nothing wrong with that,....but they have to be done individually,...very time consuming. I mentioned the use of Magic Erasers for AF way back in the old Grime Scene forum days.

When someone discovers something that can be sprayed on,..brush and rinse then I'll pay attention.

If caught within a few days to a week or so,..it can be simply whisked off with a dry brush or broom,....but once it adheres,..it's there to stay,...unless you use a Magic Eraser of course.

*Keep in mind,..anytime a Magic Eraser is used,..they have to be wet to work properly.

**The 2X textured Magic Erasers last much longer than the standard,....I use these also season long on scuff marks, etc,...

He's saying spray it on, wait 15 and scrub with Magic eraser. It worked in the video!

Hey Art,..I've used every strong degreaser out there for AF over the years,.and,...and numerous things like gas, diesel fuel acids,..etc,...this guy is only removing the "top" part of the spore in most of the video. Look close,..you'll see there is still a faint spot left behind,...and THAT is what's tough to remove,....the top scrapes off easily.  We sell aesthetics,...and although it does look better without the dark "top",..it's still not totally gone.

A plastic scraper could be used to do what he's doing.

The 15 minutes he's waiting for the degreaser to work is just wasting scrubbing time, Ha,Ha,..

All you can do is try it and see.

Smooth siding, and aluminum things like gutters and windows makes it easier to remove,..but still needs done individually.

Jeff

Pause the video at around 1:16,..and tell me how it's working. Look at all the faint spots left behind.

agree w Jeff, have tried everything possible including sample products of the AF remover people send to me....noting I've found removes them, completely. The mound is fairly easy to remove, I've great success w 8GPm and adjustable wand....but again doesn't remove it all and you have to be careful, even when using a magic eraser or 8gpm like I do, if surface is slightly oxidized...you'll mark it up. Plus that looks to much like work to me....lol

I agree Doug,..ALOT of work and time,....I just explain what it is,...give them some info on how to look into themselves,....and then tell them I just wash over it.

*I've always had it in mind to have a sheet of information with me I could give to customers,....maybe this year I'll do that.

Jeff

Pat Rick Gi Lley Lol, there goes that old mans job that called every April selling his product. I wonder if this stuff will do anything to the siding if it sits to long....

Steve Croteau I used it all last year for gutter brightening. Worked great on the gutters and siding for oxidation. $8 a gallon at Wally World. It also works really well on the truck’s tires and rims

Yep, tried everything. ShoreBest makes a product, Artillery Spores & More. I have a sample and have not tested it because I don't have the time and I don't have the black dots on my home. Some of the directions, "Dwell times may vary from 5 to 30 minutes. For removal of artillery spores dwell times of 1-1/2 to 2 hours may be needed. Do not allow the cleaner to dry on the surface. Keep the surface wet by misting with water and/or occasional brushing to bring fresh cleaner to the substrate surface. Removal of the cleaner and contamination can be accomplished with high pressure rinsing equipment. Care should be taken in the selection of the wand tip to avoid damage to the EIFS surface. In all cases, a thorough rinsing is required."

The problem with SuperClean is the stuff is really strong and if not diluted well enough will remove paint from gutters without brushing. This guy names his video "How to clean fly poop or artillary fungus". Does he know what he's cleaning? If we go around hitting spots to "remove" the spores, this will leave clean spots from oxidation removal and then they will want all the oxidation removed.

This is what our customers get from us.

We cannot remove “shotgun/artillery” fungus. The little black spots on the siding is a white-rotting, wood-decay fungus that likes to live on moist landscape mulch. It is in the genus Sphaerobolus (Greek for "sphere thrower") and is very common across the USA, especially in the east. It expands and when it explodes can go as far as 20 ft. There is no easy way to remove this fungus. The easiest way to stop this is use rubber mulch or stones.

Magic Eraser.... There are no active ingredients listed on the package because there really aren't any. Magic Erasers clean by a physical process, not a chemical one. When you rub a dirty spot with a Magic Eraser, you're essentially sanding away the dirt. As you rub, the foam disintegrates.

We have a product called LCS that we have been recommending people to test for this problem, diluted 20:1 to 50:1. its a water based stripper so diluting it to at least 20:1 is a must.

EaCo Chem,..you're full of baloney. I don't doubt you folks have good products,..but to claim a product to clean AF is really reaching. Maybe if it's only a couple weeks old on the siding. But,.aint no way. Wish it were true,..but,..it's not.

20:1 yea right.

I don't doubt this "product"  requires some certain amount of micro abrasion on every single spore,..and then it's claimed that the product worked.

We need a product that will "melt" it with little dwell time. Beyond that, I will continue to tell customers... we cannot get it off!

Hey Brett,..I guess I should have simply asked for the method/instructions of the product. I've just seen this stuff so often over the years that I always have VERY serious doubts about anything claiming to remove AF in a usable fashion. Believe me,..I truly wish something would work,...it would be a very proprietary cleaner for sure.

I'm not usually like this but I think you were a bit hard on him. I'd try a sample, if they have one, and then let him know what you think. Like I said, we need something that will melt it away. Whoever gets it right will sell a bunch of product.

Ha, Ha,..yea I'm sometimes spontaneous on my thoughts. Yea,..I'd be glad to try a free sample. Would I pay,..no way! Wonder how much "In the field" testing they did,..on various ages of the spores. Too much left out to be very hopeful.

Jeff
